Using Asteroids in Astrology

All matter maters!

I could very easily go into the situations and the charts that I began looking at including asteroids in my charts, but I’m going to get to part about HOW you use them. You’re welcome. Just know that when I first started wandering into learning about astrology and had devoured every physical book that I could find, I noticed that they were mentioned quite a bit and more and more frequently. Traditional(ish) astrology already included the major ones like Pallas Athena (fathers, wit, wisdom), Eros (whatever it is, I want it NOW), Ceres (mother/smother), Chiron (the deepest wound), Juno (marriage, commitment, and zombie relationships). So in my mind why WOULDN’T the energy influence of the other ones touch us too? We don’t get to cherry pick what counts and what doesn’t when it comes to what’s out there pushing and pulling on the obviously connected energy fields in space. It simply didn’t make sense to me that we even SHOULD!

Some astrologer (that I have extremely high regard and faith in) will get viscerally angry when you tell them that you consider asteroids to be significant. It’s almost sacrileges to them, which I can understand. It confuses what they prefer to focus on being.. not simple… but simplER! When we open ourselves up to the fact that there are over 55,000 names asteroids and counting.. it makes this an impossible task to master.

That is the very reason why I fell in love with the study of the planets, and sky rocks,… other than the fact that it is predictable, accurate, and incredibly beautiful to sit and stare at for hours. I will continue learning new things in my field for the rest of my life, and never run out of information to gather and analysis. I don’t know which of my placement love it more, the Virgo Moon or the Sagittarius Rising.

So yeah, the inclusion of asteroids can confuse it to no end. That doesn’t mean it isn’t as accurate as anything I’ve ever seen. PNA (Personal Name Asteroids), help us track where peoples influence is being felt at that time. What stage they are playing it out on. Specific topic “families” of asteroids will always help you tell the rest of the story. They fill in the missing pieces.

PRO TIP: Learn the stories that are behind each Greek or Roman named asteroid and then use the supporting actors in their stories to find other asteroids to use in a specific chart and they really will tell you a story. I recommend not mixing up the Greek and Roman names, but I’ve found that even mixing them tells the same story, just from a different angle.

I started compiling lists of them and began using them in charts. I believe in what I can see, and through the inclusion of asteroids, I was able to see more clearly. This is why I will forever work with asteroids both personally and professionally. Experience has shown me that I can trust it.

If you don’t want to, that is completely and totally ok! I don’t fault anyone for the way they analysis their charts, and this is really one of those, you do you, things. So, like everything else I teach, please always do things however you are comfortable after trying them 15-50 times in all the different ways you see other people trying it and then go from the factual data gathered, and then apply your whole heart. After you get a feel for how you are best able to stare at that circle and grids of aspects and tell they story then start listening to your gut. You will eventually get a feel for certain things.

You’ll know that when you see XYZ aspect between A and B planets you should immediately look at what planet C is doing and from where. If you include asteroids you’ll start to just know that when you see Nessus in Hard aspect to the Moon or Mars, that you should add in Dejanera and other relationship asteroids.

Yes, it’s going to take some time to retain a great deal of it, but that’s good news is that if you start by memorizing

The 12 Signs in their proper order….
Aries Taurus Gemini Cancer Leo Virgo Libra Scorpio Sagittarius Capricorn Aquarius Pisces
what planet they are associated with (10) and what element fuels each one (4)

The Houses that go in the same order as the signs
1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th 11th 12th
(and their subject matter matched the energy of the sign and planet they are associated with)

The 5 major aspects that they make to each other

Conjunction – 0°-10° apart/Same sign – Soft or Easy aspect where the two energies combine or blend together.

Sextile – 60°/Two signs apart – Creating cooperation and and easy flow of energy. Can lead to growth or increase.

Square – 90°/Three signs apart – Representing a mental or physical tug-of-war or power struggle. Tense conflict. Spurs action. A breaking point.

Trine – 120°/Four signs apart – Harmony. Lucky. The “sweet spot”. Same goals/energy. Can be excessive and therefore destructive if not managed well.

You are there. That’s it.

So, if you’re just starting to think you want to utilize this tool for helping you to gain a greater understanding of the patterns you are seeing in your life, PLEASE don’t be intimidated. It’s not nearly as complicated as it seems at first. It IS accurate, helpful beyond measure, and has been used literally since Mesopotamia around the 3rd millennium BCE. If you want to kickstart your knowledge and start out really being able to have innate ideas of what all those red and blue lines in the middle of the circle MEAN, I’m here to help with a one on one lesson.

If you just have a single question and want someone to ask, send me a note and I’ll try to help if I can. Always.
